4 Panthers the Minnesota Vikings should target after Matt Rhule is fired
Which Carolina Panthers players could the Minnesota Vikings target for trade after the team fired head coach Matt Rhule?
After the inevitable finally happened and Matt Rhule was let go as head coach of the Carolina Panthers, rumors have swirled of a possible fire sale as the organization seeks to formulate a long-term progression plan. Something that should be of interest to the Minnesota Vikings and other teams planning to play each other in 2022.
Minnesota’s impressive 4-1 start comes with heightened expectations. It hasn’t been perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but head coach Kevin O’Connell has the fan base believing a deep run in the playoffs is well within their abilities with further enhancements.
The Vikings aren’t blessed with much salary cap space. But hitting with conviction whether Carolina is receptive to moving some of its top stars is a tempting proposition whichever way you look at it.
With that in mind, here are four Panthers players that Minnesota could potentially target via trade in this scenario.
Derrick Brown – DT
After concerns were raised about Derrick Brownability to live up to the expectations of a former No. 7 overall selection, the solid defensive tackle answered those questions and more for five weeks. The former Auburn player has been a dominant force inside, wreaking havoc and pushing the line of scrimmage almost single-handedly for others around him to do damage.
Brown doesn’t fill out the stat sheet, but one look at the game tape proves what a special player he is. Someone who would improve a Vikings defensive front that has struggled at times in 2022.
Putting Brown alongside Dalvin Tomlinson and Harrison Phillips would be great. It could also provide more space for Danielle Hunter and Za’Darius Smith to fly off the edge.
