Former Demon Hubbard signs with defending Super Bowl champion Bucs
NATCHITOCHES – Former Northwestern State offensive tackle Jonathan Hubbard will have the chance to continue his footballing career in the only state he called home as a pro.
After being released by the Miami Dolphins on August 17, Hubbard signed on Monday with reigning Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Hubbard played in the Miami preseason opener at Chicago, seeing a special teams snap.
Hubbard spent the 2020 season with the Dolphins’ training squad after signing as an undrafted free agent with Miami.
A 6-foot-4, 313-pound player from Kilgore, Texas, Hubbard spent four years with the Demons from 2016-19, starting 11 games. Over the course of his career, Hubbard has started 27 games, including 21 in his last two seasons.
Hubbard was part of an offensive line of Demons that saw NSU set a litany of school records, including consecutive seasons (2018-19) in which Demons rewrote the passing distance mark of a only school season.
In his 11 games as a senior, Hubbard helped anchor an offensive line that allowed a sack on just 3.9% of his 517 passing attempts.
Tampa Bay has a preseason game to play, a 7 p.m. clash in Houston on Saturday.
