Hoggard hopes tough calendar battle puts Vikings to the test for in-depth playoff run

LELAND, NC (WWAY) – After winning the MEC again in the spring, Hoggard believes it can repeat itself.

“The sky is the limit,” said defensive assistant Tim Smith. “As long as these guys keep coming together, we’ll be able to win a lot of games.”

Smith’s unit was exceptional last season, allowing just 43 points throughout the regular season. He thinks this new crew could be even more dangerous.

“We are quite aggressive. We’re pretty veteran when it comes to our D line and defensive backs and with a very athletic core of young linemen, ”said Smith.

This unit includes plenty of returns, but two stand out: Safety Jaxon King and defensive end Xavier Smith.

“We just dominate. Dominate, ”said the defensive end. “That’s all I can say. We just want to win. We’re going to get it. And we eat.

“We are playing just as one unit,” said security. “Everyone is brothers here. Everyone’s doing their job and that’s what keeps the teams at scores like 0 and 3. “

Offensively, the team features three-year-old college quarterback Sam Jones, a three-headed backfield tandem and a punishing offensive line.

“We love to spread the ball,” Jones said. “We like to give it to our playmakers. We also pass the ball. We have 3 good ball carriers. We like to throw it all over the place and let the playmakers do their job. “

“We try to have a lot of different guys in the mix. We rely heavily on our offensive line and these guys take pride in the work they do. “
