Mike Zimmer’s son lands new NFL coaching job

Former Minnesota Vikings defensive co-coordinator Adam Zimmer is now on staff for the Cincinnati Bengals as an offensive analyst.

During the 2020 offseason, the Minnesota Vikings decided not to renew the contract of longtime defensive coordinator George Edwards. As a replacement, Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer decided to name his son, Adam, and defensive line coach Andre Patterson as the team’s defensive co-coordinators.

It was an interesting move, especially since Zimmer was the de facto defensive coordinator anyway. But apparently the former Vikings head coach felt that his son and Patterson helping lead the entire defense were best for the team moving forward.

Unfortunately, it turned out to be a terrible decision. With Patterson and the young Zimmer as Minnesota‘s defensive co-coordinators, the team’s defense had arguably its two worst seasons in the Mike Zimmer era.

After the 2021 campaign, the Vikings decided to leave Zimmer as head coach, and the franchise also parted ways with his son and Patterson as the team’s defensive co-coordinators.

Patterson was quickly added to the New York Giants staff earlier this year as the new defensive line coach. The eldest Zimmer hasn’t said a word since Minnesota fired him, but his son recently found a new team for the 2022 season.

Earlier this month, it emerged that Adam Zimmer landed a new gig after posting an Instagram story that featured him wearing Cincinnati Bengals gear. Well, it has since been revealed that young Zimmer is back in the league as an offensive analyst for the Bengals.

You read correctly too. He will work on the offensive side of the ball for Cincinnati. After spending 16 years as a defensive assistant in the NFL, Zimmer will help the offense for the first time in his career.

This will also be the former Vikings’ defensive co-coordinator’s second stint with the Bengals, as he was their assistant defensive backs coach in 2013 when his father was the team’s defensive co-ordinator.
