Viking Volleyball will host the Augustana Volleyball Classic
SIOUX FALLS, SD — Augustana Volleyball returns to competition this weekend to host the Augustana Volleyball Classic at the Sanford Pentagon, which runs Friday and Saturday.
The first game of the classic for Augustana is Friday at 1:30 p.m. against the South Dakota School of Mines Hardrockers, followed by the MSU Moorhead Dragons at 6 p.m. Augustana will start his final day of the classic against the Truman State Bulldogs at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Wolves of Northern State at 6 p.m.
In all, the classic will total 10 matches over the two days with a first match each day with a first serve at 9 a.m.

South Dakota Mines
The Hardrockers started their season at the Yellowjacket Invitational, hosted by Montana State-Billings last weekend. They went 1-3 in the tournament with the only win over UMary (3-1).
South Dakota Mines is led by Jacey Koethe with 40 kills and Anna Thomas with 60 digs.
The Dragons were also part of the Yellowjacket Invitational and played with a 2-2 record in the tournament. Both wins came against South Dakota Mines (3-2) and Chadron State (3-1).
MSU Moorhead is led by Bridget Witzmann with 62 kills and Brooke Walthall with 92 digs.
The Bulldogs began their season at the Missouri Southern Invitational, hosted by Missouri Southern. They went 0-4 in the tournament after losing to Newman University (3-1) to close the game.
Truman State is led by Hanna Berry with 36 kills and Lexi Arnell with 66 digs.
Wolves began their season at the Oredigger Volleyball Classic, hosted by the Colorado School of Mines. They went 2-2 and are on a two-game winning streak, against No. 19 UT Tyler (3-0) and Western Colorado (3-0).
Northern State is led by Sally Gaul with 42 kills and Madison Langlie with 39 digs.
The Vikings concluded their season-opening tournament at the Dr. Steve “Iceman” Aicinena Invitational, hosted by Texas Permian Basin. The Viking went 4-0 to start their 2022 season unbeaten. The Vikings completely swept Friday with 2-0 wins over Southeastern Oklahoma State and Southwestern University. On Saturday, Augustana defeated Eastern New Mexico in a 5-set thriller followed by their fourth and final win of the tournament against host Texas Permian Basin in four sets (3-1).
Vikings are led in both kills and aces by seniors Kate Reimann with 40 kills and 14 service aces. Senior setter Avery Thorson leads the team with 129 assists, while senior Erika Bute leads the team in digs with 62.
One last thing
Four Vikings have racked up at least 30 or more wins so far this season. Reimann’s 40 kills pave the way for Augustana. In addition Kia Kriener (38), Maddy Guetter (31) and Piper Asche (31) have also achieved 30 or more wins.
