Vikings already grapple with worrying injury as training camp approaches
Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Michael Pierce is reportedly struggling with a calf injury that could prevent him from making the start of the team’s training camp this summer.
Last season, injuries had a huge impact on the Minnesota Vikings’ performance, especially on the defensive end of the ball.
In 2020, injuries forced the Vikings’ defense to enter the pitch without some of their best players like Anthony barr, Danielle Hunter, and Eric kendricks. Unsurprisingly, the Minnesota defense was one of the worst units in the NFL last season.
As the 2021 campaign approaches, the Vikings are hoping the injury bug won’t have as big an impact on their roster as it did last year. But their hopes took a hit on Monday when it was reported that one of Minnesota‘s top defensemen was already suffering from an injury.
Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Michael Pierce could miss start of training camp
Before the start of last season, the Vikings came out and signed Michael pierce in free agency to replace Linval-Joseph as one of their starting defensive tackles. However, Minnesota was unable to use Pierce in 2020 after withdrawing from the season due to health concerns related to COVID-19.
Pierce hasn’t retired this year, so we should finally be able to see him in purple and gold in the coming season.
However, for those who can’t wait to see the big defensive tackle in action at the team’s next training camp, that might need to be put on hold for a bit.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media Monday, Pierce is currently battling a calf injury he sustained in training that could prevent him from playing early in Minnesota training camp.
The Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling also reported that the injury to the Vikings defensive tackle is “”quite minor, and is not expected to be kept outside for an extended period of time.
At this point, the level of concern surrounding Pierce’s injury is quite low. But the fact that someone who’s supposed to be one of the major contributors in 2021 is already battling an injury still isn’t something Minnesota wanted to happen before they even took the pitch for camp. training this summer.
