Vikings not considered top contender for 2022 draft top prospect

The Minnesota Vikings could be looking for a center in the 2022 NFL Draft, but the best player in that position might not be a perfect fit.

Center has been a tricky spot for the Minnesota Vikings for the past few years. Current starter Garrett Bradbury has underperformed since being a first-round pick in 2019. Even before he arrived, Pat Elflein failed to live up to expectations as a third-round pick in 2017.

Despite these issues, there must always be some temptation to use a first draft pick in the middle of the offensive line. Tyler Linderbaum of Iowa is the number one central prospect for most people’s bards. However, he might not be a good choice for purple and gold in the first round.

According to a article by Ryan Fowler of The Draft Networkthe Minnesota Vikings aren’t one of the best linemen.

Why are the Minnesota Vikings not suitable for Tyler Linderbaum?

Picking at No. 12 overall is a tough place to pick a center. A team should either truly believe they are an elite talent or agree with the team to select one from that spot. Another option would be to trade to a place where picking a center is more valuable.

Fowler picks the New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers as good choices for the Iowa lineman, adding that he is a “Fluid movement with the wickedness of finishing and moving defenders in the run, only to anchor and drive passers into the dirt in his passing sets.”

On paper, Linderbaum appears to be a Bradbury clone. Both are 6’3, but the youngster from Iowa is nine pounds lighter than the current Vikings starter, who has occasionally been pushed around against big defensive linemen.

That’s not to say Linderbuam couldn’t succeed at the NFL level. With a good scheme and a strong supporting cast, the draft prospect could have a fantastic rookie year. But there’s also the possibility that a change of regimen with new coaches could do wonders for Bradbury in Minnesota.

Someone will leave the 2022 NFL Draft with a great center prospect when they pick Tyler Linderbaum, but if he’s not one of the best and the Minnesota Vikings want to see what they have to Bradbury under new staff, it seems unlikely that the Iowa tackle will have his name called when purple and gold hit the counter.
